Seb has been bugging me so much thought I’d knuckle down and post some blurbs for some of the gigs I have coming up!
First one is Meursault headlining at The Slaughtered Lamb on the 27th of March!
Meursault:
We are very excited to have this Edinburgh 6 piece down to play for me for the first time!
I was going to write a bit of blurb about them but they have so much good press thought just put some of that in:
“4/5…Pennycook’s urgent voice personifies the collision between the Reid brothers (Jesus Mary Chain) and Guy Garvey(elbow)…the results are compelling”
-MOJO
“5/5 ALBUM OF THE MONTH…one of the country’s most promising new bands - a group who in the wondrously evocative Pissing On Bonfires/Kissing With Tongues have created one of Scotland’s records of the year” “Make no mistake, after a spin of this sublime record only one word will pass your lips:magnificent”
-THE SKINNY
Magic Lantern:
The Magic Lantern take their inspiration from the heartfelt stories of folk, the spirit of jazz and the experimental openness of contemporary chamber music before filtering it through their own lyrical and narrative sensibility.
With an immediately arresting sound, The Magic Lantern excel at wringing emotion from the strangest places, sounding happy, sad, frustrated, and vulnerable, often at the same time. Their best songs, whether they’re fast or slow, feel like they’re bursting with a wisdom that belies their youth.
Swapping instruments and textures, stories and ideas, The Magic Lantern’s live show is an intensely moving, indefinable experience where no-one leaves unconverted. This is chamber music for the masses, and it’s like nothing you’ve ever heard before.
They released their debut EP, Patriots, in July 2008 which can be found here and performed at the 2009 Secret Garden Party and Green Man Festivals. The Magic Lantern are currently recording their debut album ‘A world in a grain of sand’ which will be released later this year.
French for Cartridge:
French For Cartridge is a London-based band fronted by a male/female duo. Formed as an attempt to create atonal pop music whilst at Goldsmiths in New Cross, the band released their first album ‘Cases’ to rave reviews in 2006. The album made it to ‘album of the month’ in the renowned Organ fanzine and was picked up by BBC Radio 1, BBC Newcastle, Resonance FM and Pulserated among others. Their track ‘Fooling Around’ was chosen by Rob Da Bank for the Radio 1 Best of Unsigned Podcast and featured in the top half of the Dandelion Radio Peel Festive Fifty.
